1. Why do you change you major? (Why do you want to learn HR? What do you study in US?)
The Master of Science in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Program in *** University. (*……I guess you might be interested to see my career blue print, here it is……*)
Key points:
1) Since my long-term goal is to be a successful HR manager or general manager in a multinational company, the knowledge in information management doesn’t prepare me well enough to reach this goal. I have to learn more about how to organize people.
2) I have a great interest and I believe I have the talent and ability to do a good job in this field. I have numerous experiences as the leader in students’ union and group leader in class projects. But I don’t have systematic HR education background. A HR program is what I need after graduation.
3) I can see a great deal of opportunities in China’s HR labor market after reading many documents and hearing suggestions from experts and elders. My internship in an e-HR company confirmed my judgement that I can have a bright future after graduation from an excellent HR program.
2. Why do you want to study in US? (Why do you want to study HR in US?)
Key points:
1) HR in US has a long academic history and it is much more developed than that in China. You can easily found that through this fact. *** U’s Department of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations was founded in 1942. However, The first school in HR field (The School of Labor & Human Resources) was jointly established in 1983 by the Ministry of Labor and Renmin University of China. The first HRM program was established in 1993 by this school. And the first HRM master program was established in 2003. I will gain much more from HR program in US than HR in China.
2) With international education background in HR, I can easily found a decent job here in a multinational company. And the starting salary is always higher than local master graduates.
3. Why do you want to study in Penn State University?
Key points:
1) "*** U's Masters Program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources combines the advantages of a small program where students receive personal attention and get to know their professors, with the advantages of a large, world-class university. Even more impressive is that the program has placed 100 percent of its graduates since its inception, most with national and internationally known employers such as Lockheed Martin, ARAMARK, Deloitte Touche, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the Service Employees International Union."
This program has admitted 11 out of 147 applicants. And it has 24 excellent faculty most of whom graduated from Ph. D program in first class universities such as Cornell, MIT, U. of Minnesota and so on.
2) It has numerous learning resources on Industrial Relations and Human Resources. The University Libraries system, ranked thirteenth nationally by the Association of Research Libraries.
3) practical caricullum
4. How many universities have you applied?
I have applied 3 universities ranked in three different levels and luckily all of them gave me offers of admission and two of them even offer me assistantship with salary. Since international students could rarely be offered assistantship in HR program, I feel especially excited to receive those offers. Finally I chose *** U which doesn’t offer me assistantship, because I think this program is worthy me to give up other offers for career consideration. It ranked the best in the three and has many attractive characters. (接上第3题答案)

5. What is your plan after graduation? Why you do not stay in USA? Why you come back to China?
I plan to find a job as HR specialist in a big multinational company in Shanghai. Reasons are as follows: (*……I guess you might be interested to see my career blue print, here it is……*)
Key point:
1) With my solid background in information management and HR, it’s very easy to find a good job in China. Especially with the trend of globalization, more and more foreign companies branch into China, they will look for professional localized managers who’s not only alert to technology innovations but also an expert in management art. And international education background is always preferred.
2) As a HR graduate, I’ll encounter a bunch of problems if I want to seek a manager position in a foreign country. The true problem is always that international students can not arm themselves well with sufficient knowledge on the local labor law or they may not hold the language freely as they ought to. I can’t escape from those problems.
3) Even if some one can find a job finally in US, the salary is always some 20, or 30 perhaps, percent lower than that of American residents. In this case, the annual salary is almost the same between in US and in China. However, the living cost is much lower in China than in US. What should I choose to work in? of course China!
6. How much will you spend on this program? (What is the estimated cost on this program?)
Total estimated cost for an academic term of 12 months is 37370 dollars. It’s close to 300,000 RMB and my parents have prepared more than 610,000 RMB deposit for my two year education. (*……here is the supporting documents including bank deposit receipt and book, and my parents’ Certificate of Employment and Income……*)
7. Do you think it’s worthy to spend so much money on this program?
Yes. I made the decision not only by my interest but also by actual research. According to the report of current Chinese HR's salary situation and other supporting data, I'm sure that, for my background, my starting salary after graduation from master program can be at least 200,000 or reach 300,000 RMB. I’ll get those education investments back very soon. (*……Here’s the supporting documents……*)
8. Why are you so confident about your future?
With my solid background in information management and HR, it's very easy to find a good job in China. Especially with the trend of globalization, more and more foreign companies will branch into China; they will look for professional localized managers who are not only alert to technology innovations but also an expert in management art. And international education background is always preferred.
9. Who will fund you?
My parents, they listened to my reasons and then agree to support my decision on study abroad with those deposits they have saved for many years. Besides they both have stable jobs with decent salaries, I don’t think there are any financial problems disturbing me to finish my graduate education. (*……here is the supporting documents including bank deposit receipt and book, and my parents' Certificate of Employment and Income……*)
What I regard most is that I can see a bright future here. I believe I can gain all the investments back very soon after graduation from this program.
10. What's your parents’ job?
My father is vice president of the Texation Bureau in my hometown. He has been worked in the bureau for more than 20 years. My mother is vice director of Hecheng Branch of the Texation Bureau. The length of her working experience is even longer than my father's. The total amount of their annual salaries is above 110,000 RMB. (*……Here's their Certificate of Employment and Income……*)
